Via Cafe Hedonistix is a blog post by Cathy Seipp on the travails of a Delta Airlines flight attendant who has been suspeded without pay (and is presumably about to be fired) for
blogging
putting up photos of herself in uniform and on a plane
Legally Delta are probably within their rights - although if, as claimed, there are other Delta employees with personal websites and photos of them in Delta uniform, then they need a good reason why this one is special. Because otherwise some jury will wonder why they are picking on this employee and possibly see it as discrimination.
No matter what the legal position is, in the court of public relations though this is as dumb as it gets. Like Cathy says
But Delta may have a public relations problem here. Because really, when you have on one side a big, faceless corporate airline, with the usual flight delays and discomfort; and on the other a fun-loving, six-foot-tall blonde flight attendant in a short skirt, it's not hard to imagine where most people's sympathies will lie. Or at least most men's sympathies.
What bloggers take from this is that Delta has no sense of fun and hates having pretty flight attendants. Incentive to fly Delta? What incentive to fly Delta? And when you are losing money hand over fist this isn't exactly the way recommended to put more bums on seats.
